critical error: driver not loaded on restoring data base

PostFri Mar 19, 2021 11:46 pm

Hello,

I did a fresh install of Apple/Intel Big Sur 11.2.3 and DR 17.1 Studio. Previously I used Mojave + 16.2.8 Studio. I did backup that data base to an external drive.
Now when I want to restore this 16.2.8 database in DR17.1 it tells me that it did restore the DB fine, but then throws an error message.
What did I do wrong? How can I fix it?

I tried to close in the error.
There is no error, if I backup a new 17.1 data base with that installation and then restore it on the same drive in a neighbor folder.
The error persists if I use the 16.2.8 Backupdatabase which is approx. 240 MB in size.

Is there a tool that updates „old“ 16.2.8 databases to 17.1 ?

UPDATE I
There seems to be a solution!
1.) create a new data base eg. "dummy" aside from local.
2.) restore the old 16.0.0.009 database from the backup to e.g. "test173" at your favourite location
3.) select ignore on the error message even though "test173" does not show up in the list of databases
4.) unlink the "dummy" db and magical the "test173" shows up
5.) click on "test173" and then the little green up arrow and the window renders a red outlined button to upgrade "test173"
6.) click the red button and the database gets updated to 17.0.0.001
7.) clean up your drives

I tried it a couple of times with different locations and backups and it worked.

UPDATE II
It seems BM addressed the issue with 17.1.1 Studio Mac

Try loading 16 and Restoring the database there, then upgrade to 17.1 and upgrade the database.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Hi Jim,
so you suggest I to uninstall 17.1 because two different versions will not coexist on a system and then install 16 again. But that will leave the 17.1 database untouched. I will have to delete all that stuff too, in order to do a real fresh 16 install. And how will 16.2.7 run on Big Sur with all the already updated I/o drivers? Will it affect these?
Have you got some experience on that procedure?
