OBS Video With Two Tracks - Highlighting Separately

PostTue Mar 23, 2021 10:28 am

I have an OBS gaming video I'm editing in 17, on a Mac.

The main section is one video with two audio tracks, voice and gameplay. I'm struggling in Fairlight to normalise the voice track, as when I try to highlight it it also highlights the other one.

I'm new to the software, so am sure there's an easy way of doing what I need, I just haven't found it yet!

Can someone please point me in the right direction...

Two hours about Fairlight might help.

Thanks for the reply.

It may help, but I'm sure someone could help me anyway. I've been learning via a few YT videos, but I'm needing assistance with this issue, something I imagine many forum members would know the answer to, without trying to find it in a 2 hour video.

Before bringing the clip into the timeline do this.
In the Media Pool right click on the clip and choose Clip Attributes. Select the Audio tab.
In the Format box change it to Mono. Change the Tracks box to 2 and click Add. You will now see this.
Stereo Track to Two Mono.JPG

If you don't want to keep the stereo track just click the bin icon. If you do, just leave it. It will ,however, import into the timeline along with the mono tracks. When done click OK at the bottom of the Attributes window.
Now when you drag the clip to the timeline you will have two mono tracks which you can Unlink and treat separately

Thanks for the info.

It's too late for this clip, as it's all been edited, but I'll give it a try with my next one. Once edited is there any way to make it stereo again?

Yes you can do it the other way as well. Change Format to Stereo, Tracks to 1 and click Add.

I'm still not getting anywhere. I tried to change the tracks, but they're all still highlight when I try to highlight one to use.

I started off with more tracks than was posted in Charles screenshot too.

I've linked to a screenshot

In his reply Charles told you to change the format to Mono, in your screenshot it is still set to stereo

The screenshot is before I did anything. It was showing that it was different to Charles one.

Are you remembering to un-link them when on the Edit page? Make sure no clips are highlighted when clicking on the icon.

Try selecting all of the clips, then right-click and uncheck the "Link Clips" by clicking on it. Then click anywhere else in the timeline to deselect the clips. Now you should be able to just click and select the one audio track you want to work with. When you are done and you want to relink the clips, select them all again, right-click and click on "Link Clips" to relink them. I think this should accomplish what you want.
