Snap and Guides and Rulers?

PostThu Mar 25, 2021 7:25 pm

Looking for ways to arrange graphics and clips so they can be spaced according to guides or snap to other objects. It seems Studio does not have rulers or guides...what are some solutions?

I know I can create a template with guides and I have used the FX Grid plug-in, but the issue is nothing snaps to these lines since it is just a graphic.

I do like how adding text you can drag it around and it will snap to various things like the center of the frame.

Anything like this for non-text objects?

Thanks!

I think the Grid might be your only option at the moment.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

+1 for that. it´s 101 for motion graphics!

For all it’s strengths, I fear that resolve is a way off being viable for mograph type animation. I have tried, but too much basic functionality is either missing, not well implemented. I fully accept the power of nodes & fusion, but I found that really simple things, like using mask and guides in the timeline, as well as useable presets really cripple workflow.

It’s great to see Resolve developing at such pace, so I’m hopeful they’ll turn their attention to what it probably a smaller contingent of users.

I am kind of stunned this basic functionality is not included. The draw for me was the program was round-trip, instead of using 4 different programs I could use one. I tried the free version and was so impressed I purchased the Studio version. Setting out to learn it, there is much to love, but as soon as I brought in a graphic and tried to align it, I did not see much alignment help except to kinda wing it. Which is odd because the text alignment and snapping seems really good.

I bounce between FCP, Motion, Premiere and AE, and DR has a lot of the basics I need from each of those programs, but I feel the rulers/alignment/guides/snapping would be such a huge add-on.

I wonder if there is a 3rd party plug-in that offers this?
