How to update and not lose my stuff?

PostThu Mar 25, 2021 1:06 pm

I know this might be too basic of a question. I'm beginning my journey here...

So to update Resolve's version I need to download the newer .exe
How can I prevent losing all my stuff when I install it?
I'm talking about my Projects in "Project Manager". Also (very important), took me ages to set up all my keyboard shortcuts... I cannot for the life of me lose it. I want to be extremely careful

So to download 17.1 and not lose any of that. How should I go about it?

Thanks in advance!

Updates do not normally affect your settings and projects.

That said, always practice good backup procedures, regardless of software.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Keyboard Customization has an Export Presets option in the menu.

Project Manager has a Backup option for databases and an Export option for individual projects.

If you have any powergrades, create a new project (name it powergrades), move/save them to regular bins, make sure you have “save stills with project” checked under settings, and export that drp. As a safety, I would also export/save all the grades in those bins as stills (.jpg) in respective folders. Back up your database. After you upgrade from 16 to 17 you can upgrade your 16 database to 17 and open your powergrades project and reverse the bin to powergrades workflow. If needed, you can import your grades to bins. And/or import the .drp.
