Can I use a .png file in an animated title?

PostFri Mar 05, 2021 2:21 pm

Hi

I'm editing a video for a company, and I want to change a part of one of the pre-made animated titles in DaVinci. The title I want to make changes to, is the Horizontal Line Reveal title. It's one of the templates that are included in the program, and not one that I've downloaded from somewhere else.

My issue is that I want to change the line passing under the text to a .png file of a costum made line that's a part of the company's image. I'm relatively new to DaVinci (I've edited in AVID before), and I've never used the Fusion tool before.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can incorporate a .png picture into an animated title without it ending looking messsed up? Or if such a thing is even possible? :geek:

This can be done in Fusion, but you'll need to learn how to use Fusion, I think. BMD has some great training materials. They should help.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult to mask out the line from the template, and add another layer with your new line, and animate it on, all with in Resolve. You may need to double up your text effect into an upper and lower section...hard to say without sitting down at it, ....

but yes, this would be very simple in fusion. Draw a mask around what you want to hold back, and add a new graphic in its place on the next node.

very similar question:
also relatively new to DR and didn't have the time yet to bite the Fusion meat....
I want to have a simple text and a couple of lines (horiz, angled) and a small png; all together these items should fly in then track a video feature.
Just want to confirm that this can't be done with simple title/png clip in DR Edit page alone, but requires a bit of Fusion work ?
DR Studio 18.6.6 Win10Pro 22H2 19045.5371 i7-8850H 2.6GHz - 32GB RAM;

The creation and the fly in can be done with a Compound clip in Edit with keyframes, but I think the tracking will require Fusion, so best to do it all there.
