DaVinci Resolve 17.1(Free) not opening or playing files

PostFri Mar 26, 2021 5:25 pm

I am a new user of DaVinci Resolve software and I am trying to decide if it is for me.
For starters I installed ver.17(beta) on my Windows 10 workstation and it was working fine and opening .mp4 and .MOV files that I was trying to edit, then when I upgraded to 17.1 the software would open normally but I wouldn't see the previews and the video loaded to the timeline wouldn't play.
To test further, I installed ver.16(stable) and everything went back to normal. Then I updated from 16 to 17.1 and the issue came back again.
I know i don't have the best PC configuration for 17.1, but I believe my hardware covers the basic requirements to run 17.1 (based on Blackmagic's website)

Please advise.

Thank you,

My Workstation:
Windows 10 (Home) 64 bit on Samsung SSD 840 PRO
Asus Z97 Deluxe motherboard
Intel Core i7 4790K CPU
32GB DDR3 RAM
ATI - Sapphire - AMD Radeon R9 200 Series 2GB GPU

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

Hello Dwain,
I appreciate the prompt response

The links for the files you asked for are ready to be shared with you, but since I'm a new user here on this forum, I am not able yet to post them no matter how many space(s) or combination of space(s) I am trying, the system is still able to see them as a URL.

Is there another way I can share the links with you?
And when exactly a new user is allowed to post URLs here? I don't wanna spam the forum with unnecessary and useless posts just to prove that I'm not a spammer, I find that counterintuitive.

Thank you

Putting a space in the www at the front should be all it requires.

I don't know what the magic formula is for allowing users to be able to post normal URLs. My gut says 5 messages or so.

I did what you suggested with the spacing, but the system is still recognizing them as URLs and I am not able to post them. I tried also with different combinations of spacing once again, and every single time it is the same result. What a waste of time :(
