Samsung 981a SSD
Windows 10 Pro 10.0.19042 Build 19042
I was running Davinci Resolve 16 , and it was beautiful for 3 months. One day a few weeks ago, it just stopped loading entirely (suspiciously soon after NVIDIA driver updates to my Studio Graphics Drivers -- Neither Studio or Game drivers help make DR work correctly now, btw). After DR stopped working, it would get to the splash screen, look for control interfaces, and then the splash screen would just disappear and nothing would happen.
I saw that 17 was available, so I just uninstalled 16 and installed 17. Same problem. I once again uninstalled 17 and followed some internet solutions for people who couldn't get Davinci to open -- which included uninstalling all remnants of DR known. I then reinstalled 17. Same problem. It just wouldn't get past the splash screen.
One of the final fixes was to run in compatibility mode. That fixed it -- sort of. I can now run 17 in Windows 8 compatibility mode (or lower) but not in Windows 10. Unfortunately, the speed of the program is now greatly hampered. My render speed used to be about 120fps with the same exact footage in DR 16. Now I'm at about 58fps on a typical project (same footage, etc). I also find navigation a lot slower. I'm not sure if this is a function of the compatibility mode, or what.
I just want DR to run well, again. I would like to go back to 16, but I'm not sure that would solve my problem with having to run in compatibility mode, either. And I keep reading "you cannot go back." Is it true that you just can never go back, or is it that you can't go back and keep your old database? I really don't care about an old database. I don't have a need to save previous projects. A clean install is just fine with me.
Short of completely wiping windows, I am at a loss with how to get DR running in Windows 10 properly. In either 16 or 17. Please help.
