strange bug "...clip could not be processed..."

PostWed Apr 07, 2021 10:17 am

Hi, sorry for my english, I'm Italian.
I've used DaVinci Resolve since 1 year ago. The version I'm using at the moment is the 16.2.8.005.
I'm stuck at that version because my notebook ram is blowing (in fact I'm going to downgrade it!).

Anyway, since the last upgrade, I've got a really strange bug, never had before.
When I edit a clip made by my phone (Huawei P20), when DaVinci renders my job (in Deliver task), it stops at about 3/4 and shows me the following pop-up:

"Render job 33 failed as the current clip could not be processed.
The clip <clip name> could not be decoded correctly. Please check if the clip is still available on te drive"

Anyway, after that pop-up, I've got my job rendered (the final video) but, if I play it, it stops exactly where DaVinci stopped rendering.

When I use DaVinci, I always edit dashcam clips and/or clips made by my phone. With dashcam clips no problems but, with the phone clips, I've got this bug, maybe since the last DaVinci upgrade or, maybe, since the last phone firmware upgrade.

In any case there's no reason to have a bug like this, because even after the last phone firmware, I never changed any camera options.

So now I've got some very important videos to edit in my phone, but I'm scared of not being able to use that clips for my editing jobs

It could be the phone video has a variable frame rate that is outside the range resolve can handle

If those phone clips are really long (like not several seconds, but minutes) cutting them up with the razor may help sometimes.

If not, you'll need to convert them into a constant frame rate (not constant bit rate).
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Cell phones aren't good options for filmmaking.

...so, the clip was very very long (about 2 hours). I still had not edited it completely (but only the first 30 minutes), so before I let Davinci render it without any cut in the last 90 minutes.

Now I've tried to put some cut (by razor) on the clip, as you suggested. This time DaVinci rendered my project completely (till the end) but, at the end of the render, it anyway showed me the same error popup as before! ...but I played the video (what DaVinci produced) and it is perfectly working and ok, till the last frame... bha!

Note: sorry for the wrong quote, I was speaking to Uli Plank
