copying projects to new computer

PostFri Apr 09, 2021 3:53 pm

I want to transfer my projects to a new computer.
I have the projects on the old computer in 2 places.
The projects use media that are scattered an many folders.
I have learned about export/import, but I think there will be too many issues with relinking media.
I was learning about transfering data bases, but they show a "connect" button when you go to project manager, then select "new database". I don't have a connect button on this free version of 17. Maybe paid version?
Also, why can't I buy the paid version?
thanks

From the Project manager on the old computer, you can create Archives which contain all the media and the project file.

From the Project Manager on the new computer, you can Restore an Archive.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Thanks
I have done this.
Now, when I restore the archive, the project works, but...
1. where does DR store all the media files now? and
2. I assume I can delete the archive file (.DRA) once I have restored the project?

1. It hasn't touched them. They're still in the .dra folder.

2. No, you can't.

Unless you move them out of there, yes.
