Hi everyone,
I've been using Linux for the past 5 years and want to get into video editing with DR. I currently use Ubuntu and managed to get DR to run via the MakeResolveDeb tool, but my ThinkPad has an integrated Intel GPU, so DR refused to start.
I'm willing to invest in a quality laptop and DR Studio. Ideally I'd buy an AMD-based laptop, and I see that someone managed to get an AMD GPU to work on Linux (thread 135521, the forum won't let me post even its own URLs), but it was a desktop card.
I'm however quite confused by the amount of information on DR and Linux (there's a 39-page thread here
). I don't play video games, so I don't have any experience with GPUs. From what I've read, AMD's open Linux source drivers are more stable than NVidia's, but DaVinci Resolve requires the proprietary AMD driver?
So to put it simply, if money were no concern and you wanted to buy an AMD laptop that runs DR 17, what would you choose? Or is that too much hassle, and it's easier to stick with NVidia?
