DVR Studio 17 freezing my workstation

Hi there! First of all let me say a huge thank you for v.17 - it is a major step in the right direction. There is so much to love about this update. I am, however, facing a major stability issues. First off - here is my basic info:

64GB 2666 MHz DDR4 memory
AMD Radeon Pro Vega 64 with 16GB video memory
5K Retina primary screen + Asus VS24A 1080P secondary + SHARP LC70X500 8K "clean feed" monitor
BMD UltraStudio Monitor 3G (via TB3) running TV-Logic 1080P grading monitor
1TB Apple SSD AP1024M system (OS) drive & Resolve instal location

3) Detailed OS version
Mac OS Mojave (10.14.6)

4) Detailed DaVinci Resolve version
DaVinci Resolve STUDIO 17 (version 17.1.1 build 9)

Now to my issue:

Frequently Resolve would just freeze the whole workstation. I can not switch between apps and even the last ditch option to force quit apps using "command+option+esc" is not working. I am forced to hard shut-down the workstation by holding the power button...

My observations:

This seems to always happen in the EDIT page when I am doing anything in the timeline. It does not seem to be related to any specific task. Sometimes I am editing clips (in either video or audio tracks), other times I am adding clips to the timeline, and pretty much any other task you can image doing in the EDIT page. I don't remember it ever happing in the COLOR, or FAIRLIGHT pages and I have no problems exporting / rendering using the DELIVER page...

I honestly do not think this is HW or OS related as v.16 has been extremely stable. I have specifically held off upgrading to v.17 until I have delivered a pretty complicated 8K documentary at the end of March. All I needed to do was a simple 2.5 min promo video based on the same footage from the 8K documentary that was so stable in v.16 and I've thought this would be perfect opportunity to upgrade. The freezes are so frequent (sometimes within 5 min from reboot after previous crash) - that I am now forcing myself to save after every little step / task I do, in order to make any progress...

I am worried the frequent hard shut-downs can damage my workstation and/or the attached storage...
