Hi guys,
so back in December 2020, I updated to the beta version of Resolve 17 from Resolve 16 on my Windows PC with Intel i7-7700K, 32 GB of RAM and my trusty 4GB GTX 770. I've been doing lots of video editing on it till like the beginning of March. Since then I haven't fired it up and today when I decided to, I firstly updated it to the newest version 17.1.1 and then was welcomed with this very annoying message when opening a project: "The GPU failed to perform image processing because of an error - Error Code: -59".
After googling for a while I couldn't find anything helpful but I found out that the system requirements for Resolve 17 say that it requires at least CUDA 11. Regarding to its specs, my card has CUDA 3 so this seems like the issue but the question is why? I didn't have any issues with the GTX 770 editing Full HD video at 60 FPS without a single frame drop back in the older versions of Resolve 17 and I was actually pretty surprised of how well it ran. If the issue is the CUDA then basically I have no other option but to buy a newer GPU (which is a crazy thing to do right now because of the shortage of GPUs and them being ridiculously expensive even when buying used ones) or to switch to other video editing software like Adobe Premiere which I rather wouldn't do since I really love Resolve and I have no reason why not to use it anymore.
So do you guys have any experience with this, is there any workaround or can Blackmagic please explain why are they just saying no to older GPUs even when they are just enough for the job if that's the case? I am sure there are plenty of users like me with older cards so I just don't get it.
Thanks!
