17B7 Still getting audio glitches

PostMon Jan 25, 2021 10:57 am

Hi Forum

Here is an example - delivered from 17B7

This seems to be common to a particular type of project and the issues started at 17B3.

Failing projects have 4K timelines with 12K footage being chroma keyed.

In the Fairlight section the audio has the standard Gate and Compressor added.

I've noticed the glitches in the timeline playback as well as in the delivered files now.

I can't view your YouTube video, but I have also been having audio export issues. I have a bunch of talking head videos with mono audio, set to dual stereo, and only on export, the audio glitches, in that it drops out of either the left or right channel just for a frame or two, but it's very obvious, and not passable for delivered content. I have a compressor, equalizer and denoiser effects applied, and the only workaround I've found is to remove any effects on the track. So not really the best case scenario for delivered content again. Fully admit I could be doing something wrong, but seems like a bug when it plays back in the timeline fine, but exports with those audio glitches.

UPDATE:: still having issues with the built in denoise effect, but using the izotope plugin, I can use just one plugin and knock off either noise or clicks, but any more than one plugin and I get the same issue.

I also had audio glitches or crackling on my timelines when I upgraded to 17.OB Build 23 (from Studio 16); I shoot 2 camera Yoga videos for my wife's online Yoga studio using DSLRs, and curiously the Multicam timelines were glitch-free, but glitchy when applied into another timeline.

EDIT -------

Turns out the problem is the Limiter effect; but strangely, it isn't crackly when playing in Fairlight, but crackles when you return to Edit, Color, Deliver, etc. Replacing it with Multi-band Compressor worked for me as a work-around.

Extra Update

I made an export of purely the audio and still had audio glitches!

Then I took all the audio in the timeline and made a "decompose in place" on each and then rendered that out --- CLEAN AUDIO!

Then I created a timeline of the rendered Audio and Video (the ones done in separate renders). Rendered that out --- SUCCESS --- except that the video has been through Resolve twice and something gets shifted slightly and the quality is not so good.

-- And so, I went back to the original 'master' timeline and made a decompose in place for each audio clip, I had to do this twice for some that were double wrapped. CLEAN AUDIO - but none of the Fairlight Effects :(

-- And so (again) I moved the audio across several tracks and added the Fairlight effects (this was a lot of messing about). 1-2 frame Audio Glitches Oddly enough most noticeable when the video has been uploaded to YouTube. This may be the reason: https://webapps.stackexchange.com/quest ... esolutions

A possible conclusion is that audio needs decomposed onto the 'master' timeline and then shifted to tracks that will get common Fairlight effects. Note that I was only using EQ, Gate and Compression.

Another conclusion is that there are issues in the fairlight section.

I'm having this problem as well with latest R17.1.

It started happening when exporting nested timelines with the limiter effect on the master bus.
I was able to render just audio in wav format without the limiter, but only on the 2nd attempt, which makes me think there's a random element to it. I cleared all project cache before exporting... I haven't seen any cache setting for audio, but it's possible it might be related?
I haven't determined if it is the nesting or the plugin that are at fault, or even possibly the combination. The problem sounds just like the OP's, like a single frame has out-of-sync audio or something...
