Workspace/Dual Monitor - New DR17 User Question

PostTue Apr 20, 2021 1:48 pm

New DaVinci Resolve 17 user here with a question re: Workspace/Dual Monitor.

I have three(3) video monitors connected to a Nvidia RTX 2080; two(2) via DisplayPort (HP 32" video monitors), and one(1) via HDMI (a Samsung 43" LED TV).

I discovered that when in Edit mode, I can view the UI in both of my DisplayPort monitors ("Generic PnP Monitor 1 and 2"), but when I switch back to Cut mode, DaVinci Resolve 17 only displays in one of my monitors. Is this normal?

Every "mode" except Cut and Deliver show the DaVinci Resolve 17 UI in both monitors. I only wonder if this is normal, or am I missing something?

Lastly, is it possible, like I do in Adobe Premiere Pro (did I just curse? Sorry.) to view video playback on my third monitor; the Samsung 43" LED 4K TV, i.e., Generic PnP Monitor 3?

Thank you folks!

I also have the same question.

I've worked professionally in Avid for 13 years now, and would really like to be able to separate my windows so that I can have the output on a 55 inch 4k display, have my timeline, files/bins, and source/record monitors to be able to place them where I need them.

Can a BMD rep reply and see if this can be put into the works? I realize Resolve is mainly being sold out to folks with really expensive panels/hardware, but I'd like to plant this thought with you at BMD.... I believe you can overtake Avid on the OFFLINE side of things, but we'll need you to allow us to layout our screens in a more familiar manner when we don't have one (or a few) of your wonderful advanced panels, which I can see allows for scopes to be put in one monitor, output/client in another, and interface in the third. If we can make these layouts more configurable, I think it would be fantastic. Coming as a new user to Resolve, I was kind of surprised this wasn't a basic feature of this wonderful software.

The Cut page is single screen only as is the Deliver page. To feed a third monitor with a clean feed picture you will need a Decklink card or similar.
As to Scopes, you can certainly drag the floating scopes, or any floating window for that matter, to a third monitor, and that includes the floating viewer in the Fairlight page.
