Audio waveform/sync issue .m4a audio in 17.1.1

PostSat Apr 24, 2021 10:02 pm

Running Resolve 17.1.1 on M1/OSX MB Air. Utterly happy until recently, I recorded some voice tracks in QT Player for a documentary format video, and the displayed waveforms in Resolve/Edit do not sync with actual audio playback in the "Edit" tab. Sound played is about 3-5 seconds "off" from the displayed waveforms and when I try to cut/trim the audio files I end up losing pieces at the beginning/end.

I re-recorded the audio files without any change or improvement. I re-encoded the .m4a audio file to .mp3 with ffmpeg at the CLI and the .mp3 files work fine. Not sure where/how to report this bug but I can reproduce it consistently, despite Resolve restart and system reboot)

For now, I've written a bash script to re-encode all .m4a audio (recorded with Quicktime Player) to .mp3.

(Notes for myself for later reproduction: RFFI/Audio.Recorded/RFFI.1000.m4a)

Hi, I can't help with the specific issue, but if you can record your voice tracks as .wav or .aiff instead it will be a better option as they are uncompressed. I have had some strange issues with m4a files in Pro Tools also, it's more a delivery format than a format to work with.

Are your video sources constant frame rate or not? Check with MediaInfo (free).
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
