Hi Simon. To both you and anyone else reading this. I did resolve the issue today. First, in respect of re-linking files, I was somehow being a bit dumb, by not realising I had to pick the folder where the files were, instead of going into that folder and looking for the file, so yeah, my bad.
More interesting, which probably relates to your question, Simon, is that although all the main footage is my own, I've been downloading 4K backgrounds from someone on youtube called Gam Ol, who I highly recommend for anyone who needs animated backgrounds (I have sent a few quid their way too). Whilst these backgrounds are perfect, it's clear that once I edited them in Da Vinci (cross fades transitions/slowing their speed etc..), the program is somehow, I think, not recognising them as the original clip, hence lots of 'media offline' messages during the clips. I realised today that the issue was with the edited clips and nothing to do with Da Vinci.
The solution I arrived at was to pull the clips into VLC media player, and simply record them there at the speed I required, and then add the finished product to my timeline. From there I could add cross-fades and pretty much work with them no problem. So, on the first hand, apologies for being a bit slow. On the second hand I learned a lot. I think Da Vinci Resolve is a brilliant piece of software, especially it being for free and all, and am really enjoying working with it.
Clearly I have a lot to learn, but there's no question that it's a good deal of fun getting there. Thanks for the reply, Simon. Just in case you're curious, for my own video footage I'm using a Xioami Poco X3 mobile phone camera. Which is sufficient for my purposes. You work with what you have, yes? All the best.
