Razor/Blade & Multicam editing

PostWed Apr 28, 2021 12:49 pm

Without Multicams, I usually use CTRL + B to cut across both video and audio in a single action.

However, when I use multicams, the Audio is automatically unlinked from the video, and CTRL + B doesn't work anymore to cut both audio and video at the same time.

Is there something else I can use? I've tried Split clips command as well, that didn't work either. Works if the clips are linked, but not when they are unlinked.

is there a command that will cut both the audio and video regardless of whether they are linked or not?

Perhaps I'm looking at this the wrong way around. basically I have a simple video with 2 camera angles, and I was trying to switch the cameras, and also trim/cut in the same time pretty much as I go through the timeline.

However, perhaps a better way of doing this is to do all the trimming & cutting first? And only after do one more run and switch the multicams?

What would you suggest?

I'd like to recommend a different approach, one that I use myself with great results.

1. Add only camera media to your Multicam. Don't add any separately recorded audio.

2. After adding the Multicam clip to your timeline, Disable the audio portion.

3. Add any audio you want to hear under the Multicam clip in the timeline and sync it up (17 now offers the option to do this automatically), even if that audio is also part of the video clips in the Multicam. Having the audio out of the Multicam will make sound mixing much easier later on in Fairlight.

4. Make a first pass in real time, switching between cameras.

5. Make a second Trim pass, correcting errors and tweaking the cuts.

6. Work on audio later, using Fairlight.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
