Resolve Studio Licensing question

PostWed Apr 28, 2021 9:56 am

I would like to buy a Resolve Studio license (activation keys, not the Dongle). Does the activation system work similar to Adobe CC, ie I can two machines running concurrently, and if I activate a third it gives me the option to deactivate one of the other two? I would like to have Resolve installed across 3 PC's (Office, Laptop, and music studio). Is this possible?

You can activate two at a time. Activating a third will deactivate the others, so you may want to consider two licenses if you need it on three machines. Else you'll be constantly switching activations, and there have been a spate of reports in the forums lately of activation errors that sometimes take days to correct.

Now with the dongle, you can just move it to any machine you like, and it'll always work, so maybe reconsider that option for your situation.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I switch between 4 computers at 2 different locations and use the same DR license on each of them. Also I have never had to deactivate any of the instances. I think BMD's system auto deactivates a device when you log into the 3rd one.

I do recommend you store your key in a central place or on both devices because occasionally DR will ask for the key, which I assume is caused by the auto deactivation that happens when you log into a 3rd device. It doesn't happen every time but it happens enough I learned to store my key on each computer I use for editing.
