Media Management clip trim fails (SendSync timeout)

PostSat May 01, 2021 9:16 am

When trying to use the media manager to trim several clips to only keep useful portions, it fails with this in the logs : (and pretty much only the first clip is trimmed properly)

Code: Select all

I'm running Resolve Studio 17.1.1 on Linux. The source / destination drives are a spinner RAID0 array. Also tried writing to an SSD that's quite a bit faster (and also to have a different source / destination but results were the same).

But IMHO that 3s timeout is _very_ short when talking about such large amount of data.
AFAICT what it does is :
- Write the first trimmed clip (using normal buffered IO)
- Issue a 'sync' to make sure all data is committed to disk and wait 3s
- Repeat for other clips.

But this machine has like 32G or RAM, most of it unused since I just started resolve and I'm only trimming clips, so a lot of the disk writes are buffered only to memory until the "Sync" and at that point it has like several gigabytes of buffered data to commit to disk and it can't possibly do that in 3 seconds !

I can trim them 1 clip at a time, that works fine, but it's a _major_ pain :/

Is there another method to trim clips ?
Or is there a way to configure that timeout ?
