Playhead and marker questions

PostThu Apr 29, 2021 3:48 pm

Trying to make the sex change between Premiere and resolve and have 2 user issues I can't seem to overcome.

1.Jogging the playhead.
The arrow keys will move the entire timeline one frame either way. I want to find a way to move just the playhead, but it moves WITH the timeline. Is there a way to do that?

2.Markers (for music beats)
everywhere I find says to just hit M to put a marker on the timeline. Not working. The only way I've found is to click on the marker and that is causing a delay so ever marker needs to be jogged manually. Any idea why M doesn't work?

This may help.

1, In the Cut page the playhead is fixed and the timeline moves. In the Edit and Fairlight pages the playhead moves across the timeline. To move the playhead use the JKL keys. J to go backwards, K to stop, and L to go forwards. Multiple taps of either the J or L keys will speed up the playhead. In the View dropdown menu make sure Show Fixed Playhead is not ticked. You can also access it in the timeline view menu.

2, M key is working here with no problems. To find beats in your music track you could use the Transient Detection in the Fairlight page.

The biggest mistake I made after switching from Premiere Pro was thinking that my previous experience meant I could just jump into a new NLE without difficulty.

Nope.

Thankfully, BMD has made some really great training resources available for us.

I recommend the Beginner's Guide and Advanced Editing (below the video section) as a solid groundwork for working with Resolve. ;)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
