Davinci Resolve Studio 17.1.1

PostMon May 03, 2021 11:14 am

Hi there,

I experience constant crashes with Resolve. The crashes happen at random, whether I click on pretty much any where or - as just a few minutes ago - I had stayed away from my Mac Mini for a few hours.

I run a Mac Mini M1 w/ 8GB memory, the stock version. Speed Editor & two monitor setup.

Puzzling and (beginning to be) annoying.

Your system doesn't meet the minimum hardware requirements.
Resolve Studio 17.1.1
CentOS 7.3
Asus Z87, Intel Core i7-4770 3.4GHz, 24 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (450.66, supports CUDA 11.0). Old system but runs Resolve remarkably well!

DR is running fine here on a MB Air M1 with 8 GB RAM. There must be something wrong with the configuration or the sources.
Which kind of clips are you trying to edit? Camera, codec, resolution?
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies and comments. First, I do not use Fusion, so that shouldn't be the problem. As for the materials, I've opted for Proxy conversions in general, so there shouldn't be that much strain on my system.
Resolution vary, as they tend to, but in general I work with HD PAL 1920x1080 i/p or 4K BRAW => ProRes Proxy.

As for my system, yes, it is on the edge of meeting the requirements. It has been otherwise a joy to use the Mac Mini. The M1 is a sprinter-of-a-chip and performs just dandy. I realize the culprits of not having a powerful graphics engine, but then again, the one Mac Mini has should suffice.

When I started off with the M1 / Resolve combo it worked fine. The issues I'm experiencing started after I upgraded to 17.1.1. The Beta was fine, as well, no issues. I haven't re-installed Resolve due to a fairly busy schedule, but am planning to do so later.

I'm proned to go with Uli's comment about my configuration and/or sources. It's a bit-of-an electric tupé I have here. Due to Mac Mini's (the same goes to Airbook) lack of ports I have extensions to get everything hooked up with two monitors, a LaCie Raid, a WD 8GB mass storage through a USB-C connected dock and so forth.

I bought the Mac Mini for trial purposes only. I'm definitely looking to upgrade my edit once the M1 lands on a bit sturdier and flexible platform. In the meantime, I keep on plowing the field with the Mini.

Would be very interested to hear about other peoples' configurations and sources for future references.
Do drop a note if you may.

So, thanks to you all and happy trails. I'll let you know if/when I find the 'real' problem.

Cheers jb
