Trying to cut and drag/extend a clip but doesn't work

I'm trying to cut an end of a clip and stretch the rest out to fill in the ripple. However, in the process of stretching out and filling in the ripple, the clip just returns the same end that I just cut out. I tried every combination of changing clip speed, maintaining clip speed/stretch to fit with no avail. Can anyone help me solve this issue?

The key is to right-click on the clip and choose "Retime Controls".

Select the clip and hit Ctrl+R.

You want to place the cursor above the blue arrows when you drag.
