Super Scale on transcoded media

PostSat May 08, 2021 10:23 pm

I’m working on a show that was edited, conformed and transcoded in Avid Media Composer, in UHD. Some of the original clips were SD footage. These clips were transcoded in UHD 3840x2160 like the rest of the show.

I’m wondering if I will see any benefits of using “Super Scale” on these transcoded clips, or if I would need to go back to the original archive footage.

Thanks.

I believe you have to go back to the original footage, because the damage has already been done to the material that was transcoded and uprezzed from SD to UHD. SuperScale is itself an upscaling process -- it wouldn't work going from UHD to UHD.

Definitely go back to the originals and if Superscale is not sufficient, give Video Enhancer AI a try.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
