How to know the length of all clips in a folder?

PostFri May 14, 2021 10:58 am

Hello,

I was wondering if there is a way to know the total length of all the clips in a folder. For instance, a folder in my project has 207 clips but I want to know the total length of all of them together. I tried to find the information in the Metadata tab but I couldn't locate. Is it possible to know?

Thanks

To get the duration of a group of clips, you have to add them to a timeline.

Or do math. :o
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

hmm that will be quite a hassle to drag all the 207 clips in the timeline and also similarly doing math would be a lot of work! I was wondering if there was an easy way out.

It's actually pretty simple. Select the clips, right click, Insert to timeline.

Or just drag. The timeline's duration is the answer you're looking for.

Hello
Just a thought, what about source tape on the cut page? That will show a total and no need to create a timeline.

On Windows select all clips, right click and show properties/details. If file format is supported by Windows then it will show you length of all selected files.

Thanks for the tip, I was worried that dragging 200+ clips on the timeline might slow the computer but I guess it won't be that much of a problem.

But I use a Mac and I don't think it's possible that way.

On Mac you can use other way.
If files play fine in QT X player then open first one then select and drag rest files into QT. Press Done and you will have all files joined (like in NLE timeline) and can see duration for all of them. Once you done close QT without saving anything.
