Davinci To Premiere

PostMon May 24, 2021 10:40 pm

I’ve edited my film in Premiere Pro then brought it into Davinci for colour grading. All my footage is 6K BRAW 8:1 compression and I want to know which is the best format to export the XML to take it back into Premiere that will maintain a high quality for cinema use. Should I export ProRes? Or DnX? Perhaps something else?

Why go back to Premiere Pro?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I am working on a grading job. The client has done the edit in premier and they have titled and subtitled extensively. I am to grade textless so they can slip it back in.

.dpx sequence is top shelf. Prores next level down.

Many possibilities depending on your workflow and systems you use. What is your master delivery file format requirement?
Between the 2 choices you mention, I would select ProRes if you are on Mac system, and DNxHD if you are on Windows platform.

Thanks. I wasn't trying to offer a suggestion, though. It was a genuine question I thought I should have the answer to before I offered a recommendation.

I’m just more familiar with Premiere so I thought from that perspective it would be easier for me to take it back to Premiere.

Just make sure to populate the reel/tape field if it's empty. Works better for roundtripping in my experience.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
