Surprising selection of adjustment clip

PostWed May 26, 2021 1:56 pm

New user of Resolve here.

I have a timeline consisting of many clips on video track one, and one long adjustment clip for the whole length of the timeline on video track two. In the cut page or the edit page I highlight a clip on the timeline. I then click the Color tab. I had expected the same clip would be highlighted on the color page, but instead the adjustment clip is highlighted. It's very easy to start grading the adjustment clip by mistake. Is there a Preference or some such I can set to influence the behavior to something more expected.
Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Best Regards

I don't think this behaviour can be changed.

I agree it makes no sense for it to always select the top video or adjustment clip and it has caught me out a couple of times.

in the color page, if your adjustment is in video 2, press alt plus click on the the [V2] layer in the timeline view in color page. that will turn red.

in that way the adjustment is active, but you will not be able to select it (excluded) form color modifications.

Clip Selection isn't relevant when switching pages. Rather Resolve uses a Universal Playhead, which will remain on the same frame as you move across the pages.

The Adjustment Clip just happens to be the top most clip, that's why it's selected.

Probably the simplest way to handle this is to do all your editing first, then move to the Color page just once to do all that work.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Big thanks to Walter!

That is a non-obvious key combo that will save a lot of frustration... I was really beginning to hate adj. clips.

Thanks for the tip Walter. Perhaps the behaviour I describe could be considered for inclusion during ongoing development of Resolve.
