When pulling just the video (without the audio) into the timeline and then export it H264/MP4 (individual clips), the resulting file plays with the original audio of the clip. Is this normal or have I missed any settings?

Individual Clips export is designed for round-trip workflows. For example, Edit in Avid, grade in Resolve, export back to Avid. For this workflow the clips must contain the same tracks as the original clips. Details are in the Resolve Reference Guide under the help menu.
