Silence a portion of a audio clip?

PostFri Jun 04, 2021 8:52 am

In fairlight, how do you mark a section and fill that with silence. Like in Adobe Aduition. I liked it since you don't have to split up your files, or fade the volume wich would take more time.

Fairlight features a completely non-destructive workflow.

For destructive processing any external application may be configured for that purpose:
Preferences > System > Audio Plugins > Setup External Audio Processes

The unprocessed source will remain in place on a lower (Track) layer with the external audio processing workflow.

Holding down the Alt key, click on the clip gain line at the start and end of the section you wish to mute. This adds keyframes. Now add two more between those points. With just the mouse click on each of the middle keyframes and drag them down as far as they will go. You will have now muted that section.
This works on the Edit page as well.

I wish I could just Mark a section and hit a hotkey to drop the volume to zero for that section. Just like your example Charles, but have it on a hot key.

1. Lock the video track(s)
2. Mark in and out points
3. Hit the delete key

The downside with the second method is it is difficult to change your mind later.

Not all all. Just extend the clip to meet the other and it will rejoin again.
In fact it is far easier to trim a few frames either way with this method.

You can just use the range selector tool .... the + shaped one to the right of the arrow selector button... and hold down the left mouse button, drag across the range you want silent, then hit delete.
