Can't hear sound library for 2 weeks

PostThu Jun 03, 2021 4:56 pm

Hello,
I'm posting this with hope someone help me find what's going on. I can't hear the sound coming from the sound library. Despite erase and restart from a new installation, Resolve still have the same pb and I'm really sad for not beeing able to work for 2 weeks on my projects.

I have configured manually the speakers, I have patch the monitoring direct out to speakers under fairlight menu.
Is there something else to check?
I know that the last patch of win10 destroy something for audio 5.1 application (it's in their patch notes) but I can't do anything about it. I really hope black magic work with MS to fix this.

Looks like you went from 17.2.1 back to 17.2? Would advise you stay on 17.2.1.

Is it JUST the Sound Library you can't hear? Is audio from your timeline media working?

Normally for your scenario, on the Fairlight page - Patch I/O area, you'd want to patch the Control Room Monitor Out to the Speakers.

Hello Mr Maggart,
I've upgraded to 17.2.1 and nothing change.
Here's a screenshot of the Fairlight I/O Patch menu

I can hear the timeline but not the sound library.
You'll find a new log too.

If you hear clip audio, then I don't see how you cannot hear sound library audio.

Send a screen shot of the Fairlight page with the Sound Library showing the sound you are attempting to play.

Jean, can you post a screenshot of your setup in the preferences section > video and audio I/O - Speaker setup?

You channel order looks a bit out of the ordinary...

If you set your speaker setup to Manual, make Main as 5.1 format and have the channels set to each correct speaker, you shouldn't need to touch the patching in the fairlight section, it should all happen automatically. Be helpful to see what you have in the speaker setup.

Here's a grab of audio config.

I'm trying to understand why there's 8 speakers available in fairlight menu. There's only 6 in the preferences menu and my system got only 6 L R C RL RR S

I'd guess your soundcard has 8 outputs, but because your speaker setup is 5.1 it's inly using 6 of the 8 available.
The odd thing is your control room monitor out patching is out of whack with your speaker setup. I don't know if that's causing your issue...in that Fairlight page, try changing the control room monitor out patching so it matches the speaker setup - L>output 1, R>output 2, C>output 3, LFE>output 4, Lsur>output 5, Rsur>output6 of the soundcard.
Then make sure you've only got one main output bus and check that your main output bus is set to 5.1 and not stereo. You do that in the Fairlight menu under bus format.
I could be worth setting the control room monitor out patching as I said, then create a new project, and a new timeline with just one track (use the default) and see how that goes, just to rule out any weirdness in any previous project.
See if that fixes it?

I made little progress:
I've started a new project, I've patched correctly the control monitor room to the appropriate speaker. and set Bus format to 5.1. Anyway I still can't hear the sound library, as you see on the grab, when I push play in sound library the audio level of the mixer show the sound sample, but I can't hear it.

Are you able to audition within the Sound Library on the Fairlight page?

Mono sources are routed to the Centre channel. Any change with stereo media?

Any change with a Stereo Monitor Set Format in Preferences?

No, it's the same. I see the sound in the mixer but can't hear it

No change.

Any change with a Stereo Monitor Set Format in Preferences?
Yeeeees, I'm able to hear everything. So any idea why it's not working correctly?
Are you telling me I will be unable to work with my 5.1 speaker set?
