Questions about Rec2020, Exports and LUTS

PostMon Jun 21, 2021 7:14 am

Hello there. I am working with some Canon C300 III footage and I really like the look of a particular Rec.2020 LUT on this footage. My timeline color space is set to Rec.709 Gamma 2.4 and I want to deliver in Rec.709. If I apply this Rec.2020 LUT to the footage in my Rec.709 timeline, I'm effectively seeing it converted to Rec.709, correct?

Additionally, if I'm ever working in a timeline and it is set to a Rec.2020 color space setting, in the "Deliver" page in the Advanced Export settings, if I change the "Color Space Tag" to Rec.709, when I export, it will convert the Rec.2020 timeline to a Rec.709 file, correct?

There is a chapter in Part 2 of the Reference Manual called Data Levels, Color Management, and ACES which should help you determine the best way to proceed for your project. It's less then 30 pages and well worth reading.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
