No audio, No audio waveform in Resolve-Solved=bitrate! -

PostMon Jun 28, 2021 9:41 am

Over the past ~6 months I had audio problems, firstly it was intermittently (?!?) for ~5 months in DR15.
The problem being for "some" uploaded clips there were no audio output at all, including no audio waveform, however the clips and timelines DID show the audio tracks!
I searched the forums and youtube where there are many "unexplained" solutions to a wide range of other DR audio problems, but none were my problem!
I thought that perhaps it was because I was using the "dated" DR15 version and so updated to DR17, which did not help at all. It took me many hours over 5 days of online searching, including uninstalling and reinstalling v.17, v.16 and v.15 and I found it very surprising that there was not even a mention of this particular problem that I had on the hundreds of links and yt videos I investigated!

Then, after investigating all of the details of the audio on my hundreds of video clips, I discovered that dependent upon how/what equipment was used for my video clips, the audio BITRATE was being saved at different rates/qualities! And so then with trial and error I worked out that DR is not able to process and therefore play any audio bitrate above ~256kbps !!!!!

This has been a VERY frustrating 6 months to finally discover this and a very significant point is that I have been using DR15 for ~2 years with EXACTLY the same video and audio equipment and for the first ~18 months DR15 obviously had NO problems processing higher audio bitrates, BUT it seems to me that they changed their DR settings from their end and as far as I can find in their BMD forums this was never announced?! I am not a professional video, editing, sound, production anything and so perhaps the professional people would have well known quickly about technical things/changes like this, however BMD has (VERY fortunately and thankfully!) provided the general public with this great editing software which like myself has been taken up by hundreds of thousands non-professionals and so I do ask whether it is actually too difficult for BMD to simply POST CLEARLY the changes they make to their software, when they DO change things?!
Yes they do post "upgrades", however these focus on "improvements" and do not explain the details of I suspect many other small, VERY annoying "glitches"/changes that they make.
