Sound Library - 3rd Party Sound Naming

PostTue Jun 29, 2021 3:42 am

How are folks dealing with 3rd Party Sound libraries that organize sounds by folder, and may have less than optimal naming conventions, and no metadata available to Resolve? I can add the library to my sound DB in Sound Library, but the names are meaningless, and all in ONE GIANT LIST, and I can't seem to find a way to display the file location (which would be somewhat helpful). In this case the folder structure is lost, as is the logical grouping of sounds. I have a few old libraries that came on groups of CD/DVDs, and had their own antiquated management system (usually in the form of a list of filenames grouped by sound type).

The Sound Library works like a charm with the BMD developed library, but is it designed for much beyond that? Given that you can't add your own tags/metadata, even to sounds you create (I don't think), it doesn't seem meant to be a sound library management system.

I must say though, that once you find a sound, what you can do with the library in getting sounds to the timeline is pretty cool!

The Fairlight Sound Library is not currently a management tool like Soundminer or Basehead.

As outlined in your other thread, once meaningful metadata is present the Fairlight Sound Library provides a search tool to quickly locate the required sound and then audition that sound on the Timeline in context.
