Audio not working after 17.2 update

PostFri Jul 02, 2021 12:53 am

Hi all - hoping you can help. I've updated my Resolve to 17.2.2 today and audio is no longer working as a result. I've tried digging in the forums but am not getting anywhere with all of the usual settings here.

All other apps work other than Resolve and I'm getting audio fine otherwise. Resolve worked prior to updating.

Only tricky thing is that I'm working on a google machine in the cloud - so it's Windows Server based and perhaps has less soundcard options than a typical machine.

I've been tinkering in the prefs + with patching (Fairlight) and a couple of things stick out to me - first, in my prefs > video + audio I/O, I get a sole output option of "Un-assigned." This can't be good?

And then in Fairlight's Patch I/O settings, I have no main outs nor audio outputs listed. All of the other people listing ways of fixing audio in Resolve seem to have some more options present here.

Any ideas? Was there a version that changed something - I've tried rolling back to 17.2.1 (thinking that's what I was on when I had working audio) but I get the same results with no sound. I can try going back to 17.1 or something, but this all seems odd for it to quit working out of the blue. Any ideas, I'm game! (+thanks)

hmmm, the plot thickens.

Tried rolling back to 17.1.1 and now get Audio Outputs to appear in Fairlight's patch bay!

And my audio outputs now appear in the output section of speaker setup in my prefs.

So I'm happy to have working audio, but a little miffed at why this happened and ruined my afternoon. Anyone have any ideas? I wonder if there's some way to get Resolve to recognize my setup in 17.2 that I could try but perhaps didn't think of? Some way to brute force these inputs to be recognized?

Seems I'll be stuck on 17.1.1 unless anyone has any ideas on this, and it seems like a problem specific to cloud hardware, which might make it hard for BMD to troubleshoot. Although, obviously they had it working in 17.1.1...

You are truly living on the edge, Jay. Quite an interesting setup.

I have no answer for you, but am looking forward to see how this pans out and will follow this thread.

FWIW I just updated from 17.2.1. to 17.2.2 and the audio is working, I'm doing some audio work in Fairlight at the moment. Just as a data point, I'm on a Mac.

Cheers,
Thor

Ah yes, can provide some specs.

it's a windows machine and yes I'm accessing over RDP. I also have teradici and could try that instead, but it's more of a backup than anything (was testing my control panels and wacom tablet and it did work a little better honestly, but the rest of the company is on RDP so I just stuck with it)

Windows Server 2019 Datacenter edition

Xeon 2.3 ghz 8c/16t
48gb RAM
Nvidia Tesla T4 GPU with 16gb vram and something called the "google graphics array"
under sound it just says "Taradici Virtual Audio Driver"

this is all with Resolve studio - and again 17.2.2 and 17.2.1 were not working, but 17.1.1 is.

Any other specs or logs, happy to provide.
