Color Issues on Export (Viewing in Resolve)

PostMon Jul 05, 2021 5:23 am

Greetings,

I have encountered an issue where my footage is looking more desaturated upon exporting it (ProRes 422 HQ) and re-importing back into Resolve it than it does originally on the same timeline. I have seen dozens of other posts where users are having issues between external media players (such as QuickTime and VLC) and Resolve, but I want to stress that this is not the issue I am having.

My issue is viewing my exported clip, when re-imported into the same timeline in Resolve, on my calibrated Flanders Scientific AM210 connected to my MacBook Pro via an Ultrastudio Monitor 3G. I am viewing the exported clip in Resolve, on the same monitor I use for color grading (and not on any others). I've also made sure that no color effect nodes located in the timeline color grading space are enabled either. I am using DaVinci Resolve Studio 16.2.7.010

To the best of what I can perceive, the exported (and then reimported) clips look more or less the same in the media pool as the original clip does on the timeline. It is when I drag the imported clip onto the timeline where the visible difference can be seen. When I do this, the gamma seems to shift slightly, and the re-imported clip seems to be less saturated as well when compared with the timeline original. I made sure to create a new timeline to make sure it was not just this particular timeline, and I had the same issue. This was also the case in other project files as well (which leads me to believe the issue might be happening with one of my settings here).

I got in touch with Blackmagic's technical support, and they referred me to this forum to post with my issue. They said it was "workflow related". I have attached screenshots below of my project settings.

This is my first time posting on this forum, so thank you for bearing with me while I learn the ropes on here.
