Render Cache Not Functioning Properly - 17.2.1 b 12

PostSat Jun 26, 2021 11:36 am

In the subject version of Resolve, the render cache seems to have problems.
When I reopen a project to continue working, it does not load previously cached renders of fusion clips and such (it's supposed to, right?), and it won't even background render them again, even though it's eating up a lot of system resources! Even in the Deliver tab, rendering the project is impacted greatly (majorly slowed down) because of the "lost" system resources.
I have to exit Resolve, delete the cache, then restart Resolve and reopen the project. Then I have to wait for Resolve to re-cache everything and it works great - for that session.
Next session I have to do it again.
Am I doing something wrong, or are there bugs?

1a. Be sure to use only internal drives, no externals or networks.
1b. Ideally a drive dedicated to Cache, Proxies, etc.

2. Make sure the Cache drive is the first drive listed in Preferences>System>Media Storage.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I don't have a drive I can dedicate to Resolve, but things are set up like your 1a and 2.

By default, Resolve was setting up the render files on my c drive, but when that filled up I moved it to my large data drive - my D drive. Resolve 16 handled this just fine. Resolve 17 does not.

I'm thinking of setting up a batch file so that the cache clips folder is emptied each time I start Resolve as a way to ensure the cache works properly in each session. But I'd prefer the cache to work properly.

I put Cache on D and Resolve 17 handles it just fine. You do have item 2 in place?

Yes I do. It's the only item in the list.
First indications is that the problem has gone away in 17.2.2. I'll keep an eye on it and we'll see.
