Automatically change angle? (Multicam)

PostSat Jan 25, 2020 3:11 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm fairly new to Resolve 16.
I'm currently working on a live coverage of an event where I used two cameras to record. Now I managed to put those two clips (each of a length of 90min) into a multicam clip so I toggle the view by clicking 1 or 2.

Is there a way to tell the programm that I want to change the perspective from Angle 1 to 2 every 30 seconds for example? It is really annoying and time consuming to do it manually by skipping ahead 30sec, then switching angle, skipping ahead another 30sec and switching the angle again ...

does anyone here have a quicker solution for that? I'm planning on covering events with up to 4 cameras in the future and would like to switch approx. every 15 seconds ideally ...to do this manually would be crazy ... :D

hope someone can help!

cheers,

What is the use case for wanting to switch cameras on a strictly timed basis? I would think you would want the change in angle to be motivated by something that was happening in the scene, which would obviously require manual review.

The only reason I can think of to do so on a timed basis would be if you were trying to simulate the behavior of a set of security cameras or something, and I wouldn't expect something like that to be useful for more than a limited number of cuts being used in a larger work.

Not saying you don't have a valid reason for this - just curious as I'm totally lost on anything that might be.

Make a 30 sec slug and put it somewhere on the timeline, set the opacity to zero, disable the track, whatever makes sense . Copy and paste a few times until you have 10 min. Copy and paste that a couple, okay, nine times. Now the timeline is set up in easy to navigate 30 sec blocks. At this point you can set markers or keep the blocks. Save it as a template. It's not automated but it might take 3 minutes if you're dragging, aerobics for your fingers, arrow 1, arrow 2.

Better way is skip multicam altogether. Line up the tracks on V1 and V2. On V3 place a 30 sec. color solid every other 30 seconds. Select all of V3 shift click and move it to V2, release. Now move it back up to V3 and hide V3. Textbook Cookie Cut.

Good Luck

Looking to do this same sort of thing

Late to this topic but ...I think theres a way to do it (set random angle switches) in the speed editor (hardware). I saw it done in a BMD video....but can not seem to find it in the menus anywhere for 16 or 17.

Anyone know where it might be in the reg menus?
