[bug] Scene names with commas create separate "Scene Bins"

PostSun Mar 14, 2021 11:43 pm

I love that there are now automatic smart bins created by scene name.

I just want to report a bug in how they are currently created. Scenes with commas in their name will create separate smart bins, with one bin named for each section of the scene title divided by the comma.

For example, a scene titled "1,000 tons" will produce two Smart Bins named "1" and "000 tons", both of which contain all clips from the "1,000 tons" scene.

I assume this is a side effect of the filter being used to create the bins parsing the scene name using "contains any of" rather than using "contains exactly".

I'm using Resolve Studio 17.1

This might be by design, not a bug. You might need to skip the commas in thousands.

I challenge that. I can't think of a single use-case where this behaviour is desirable. I'm open to hearing about one, but I consider this a bug until I hear about one. As long as we are allowed to include commas in scene names, the automatically created smart bins should reflect the actual names of the scenes.

This is simple bug; the programmers simply need to make sure scene names are properly escaped before smart bins are created.

Possibly related to import of metadata from csv files (thus by design)

i.e., In a csv file, when you want to include multiple values for a single metadata field you need to write "NAME1, NAME2, ..."

This may also apply to metadata import from xml files as well.

By design, scene/clip/reel/take etc.. should not have commas in the name as its a standard divider for parsing

Perhaps the entering the character in scene names could be disallowed entirely then? An unwritten best practice feels more like a workaround than a bugfix. It also feels like a security vulnerability ... sanitizing inputs so they don't have the ability to execute code is database coding 101.

The entry "accident,accident-flashback" allows me to mark a clip as being relevant to both scenes.
