Creating a shooting LUT whilst using RCM?

PostThu Jul 15, 2021 7:15 am

Hi friends.

How would you create a shooting LUT to load onto a BMPCC 6K when you've used Resolve Color Management in your grade?

Background:
  1. I shot some test footage as BRAW
  2. Loaded it into Resolve with Resolve Color Management turned on
  3. Did a primaries grade adjust lift/gamma/gain, contrast/pivot, and saturation to get a pleasing look
  4. Exported a 33-point LUT as a cube
  5. Loaded it onto the camera

At this point though I suspect that the LUT is only exporting the adjustments in the node tree and that the input and output transforms being done by RCM is not included. My thesis is that I could load the footage into a non colour managed project, import the node tree but prepend and append it with colour space transformations that replicate what RCM is doing and then export a second LUT from there.

Noting that I can bring the gallery still in and I should be able to see the galley and the colour space transformed image matching.

What is your feedback and advice?

Your idea is correct. To create a LUT for incamera use you'd have to include the output transform in the grade so Resolve can bake it into the LUT file.

If you want your timeline to be a space that is not camera native like DaVinci Wide Gamut / Intermediate you'd include that as input transform before your grade too.

Then you can save the grade without the CSTs in your gallery for later use in RCM.

Don't think there is a more efficient way to go about it.

Thanks @shebbe.

An upgrade to 17.2.2 so that Gen 5 is available in the Color Space Transform OFX and the following settings have worked a treat. Now to test it in camera.
