Problem using Transform node within Fusion

PostThu Jul 15, 2021 3:17 pm

I have not figured out how to fully control keyframe handles on clips in the edit screen. It appears Fusion gives me such control, but I still need help.

I have a large poster I want to scale and transform full screen in my final render. The 'transform' node appears to have all the controls I want, but when I attempt to scale the clip larger than 100%, the image is cropped within the original size and aspect ratio. I wish to expand my view to widen to full screen and use the keyframe animation to explore details within my poster clip. Outside of the cropped area, I can only see a green outline of the area I desire to have image. I have "Cropping" turned off in the 'Edit' page, if that matters.

Is using Fusion in this way going to allow me to do this? Please, how?

Maybe I answered my own question, but in a bit awkward way...

My solution was to import a 1920x1080 transparent PNG as a clip. I then bring it into Fusion. In fusion, I add my big poster image as Media2, add a Merge Node and merge the poster clip as the foreground. I can then use the Transform node on MediaIn2 (before merging) in the way I wish and have the desired control. Is there a better way?

Instead of using a png image, why not just use a transparent Background node instead?

Okay - Thanks.

You didn't mention where to find one, but I found Add Tool > Generator > Background. I then changed the Alpha attribute to zero. That seemed to work well and I suppose it is the proper choice.

No - I just tried it and was put back on the same problem. So far, the only solution I found is to have an actual transparent image clip of my project screen size inserted into the timeline and then use that in Fusion. The Media input will be the transparent still, applied to the Merge Node's Background, and then my poster image applied to the foreground, with all the wanted transformations already applied. The only drawback is that in the Edit page, you won't see the transformed object, just the empty alpha.
