Help interpreting CaptureLog files

PostTue Jul 20, 2021 9:57 pm

Does anyone here have experience deciphering what’s in these? I’ve been stuck for over a month at the “Loading Fairlight Engine” page and I’m trying to interpret the information inside. Details of what I’ve already tried are in my original posting here.

Here is my Capture log.
Here is my NFO file.
WindowsNFO exported as text

I loaded the DMP file into Microsoft Visual Studio and here is info in the top section. Maybe there is a permissions problem? I'm not sure what a "virtual address" means in this context. I colored the interesting part in red.

Exception Information: The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.
Heap Information: Not Present

The bottom section shows me this. I'm not sure that it shows me anything useful other than it seems to confirm that it never made it past the Fairlight section. The last line says something about re-using OpenCL. I'm tempted to wonder whether there is a problem with OpenCL, but if it's "re-using" something, that suggests that it worked at lease once earlier.

If you made it this far, I thank you for reading. I'd be grateful for any suggestions. At this point, I'm ready to start looking more closely at Adobe Premiere.

I would suggest you redo the logs and NFO file following these instructions.

I had a look at your NFO file. Possibly a problem as it looks like this.

Charles,
Thanks for bringing that to my attention. It looks like my FileZilla FTP transfer was inadvertently doing a conversion. He's a link to an exported text NFOthat was upload with different FTP parameters. This seems to look coherent.

It's certainly not my long term solution, but I got that card to run with version 16 on a much slower computer. It has 2 GB of video ram which is supposed to be the minimum. My new machine has a Ryzen 5950x CPU with 128 GB memory. I'm not planning to skimp on the GPU, but I'm not willing to reward scalpers. I'm hoping to use this as a temporary card for a while. I may try installing version 16 since I know that this card definitely works with version 16.

Downgrading to version 16 and examining that version's capture logs helped me find a solution for now. Version 16's logs had more explicit information that was not in version 17's logs. Here is some info for anyone else who may have had this maddening problem. Red emphasis mine.

Urgent message: CRITICAL_PREF: DaVinci Resolve could not find any OpenCL capable GPUs. Would you like to review and update your DaVinci Resolve Hardware Configuration? ||Please ensure that appropriate GPU drivers are installed and your DaVinci Resolve hardware is configured appropriately.

[0x000029ec] | IP | ERROR | 2021-07-21 11:07:00,315 | Failed to initialize OpenCL boards

The logs for version 17 did not explicitly say anything about OpenCL capable GPUs. Since I was originally able to run Resolve using this GPU, I suspected a driver issue. A search in the forum showed that other people had OpenCL problems due to driver issues.

From within the Radeon software, I selected an option to reset to factory defaults. This probably wasn't necessary since I then uninstalled the Radeon software from the computer. I then uninstalled the drivers for the graphics adapter from within Windows Device Manager. I had uninstalled drivers from Device Manager once before without any luck, but I hadn't uninstalled the Radeon application until now. After deleting the 3 Black Magic folders (described in my other post), I rebooted and then reinstalled Resolve and it worked! I'm concerned that I will never be able to upgrade my video drivers. I hope to eventually upgrade to an Nvidia 3000 series card soon, so hopefully this won't be an issue.

Thank you everyone who gave me input. I'm disappointed that I could get any input from Black Magic staff on this maddening problem.
