Unlinked media on working files!

PostFri Sep 24, 2021 10:51 am

the animation shows what's occurring.

A perfect working PNG is imported into the media.
But as result, I got "unlinked media".
No way to get it linked.

I'm sincerely getting annoyed to have this kind of issue with medias. It's not the first time and it seems not even tackled as it should.

EDIT: that PNG is perfectly working anywhere EXCEPT with DaVinci.

I think it's because of the filename ending in 500x500. Resolve defaults to thinking that any still image file that has a number at the end of its name is part of an image sequence. So in this case it thinks you've imported frame 500 of a sequence of 500 frames.

In Explorer, try renaming it to "test.png" and then try import it into Resolve again.

If that works fine, then this is the method to allow importing it to Resolve without having to rename it:

- Prior to importing it, open the Media page and go to the Media Storage pane.

- In the top right, click the three-dot menu and tick "Show Individual Frames"

- Now import the PNG again.

More details of this are on page 333 of Resolve v17 manual.

Hmm OK, maybe a different issue then. Can you ZIP it and upload it here?

Thank you raphaelgoesm.
Although I downloaded it and exported as PNG with Affinity Photo, as usually I do, to get transparency around

I will download your one so I can use it then :-)

Welcome. In my experience, a lot of these problems with png, jpg, etc... are with the files themselves. Many image editors are more "forgiving" than DR. One thing to try next time is to open it in Paint and save the file again just to test if the problem persists in DR.

i certainly will do it.
I'm a bit astonished because I remember I downloaded it from internet, then, to create the transparency, I edited with Affinity. Saved as PNG.
That's why I'm surprised.

however, this is a good lesson, and I will follow your suggestion next time, just in case :-)
