How do I import files?

PostSun Sep 26, 2021 10:30 am

Hi.

I've installed the latest version of Resolve on my Mac.. I'd like to import media into it.

Dragging and dropping video into any part of the Resolve UI fails to import assets.

If I go to 'file' -> 'import'... I can see 'media' in the submenu. But it is greyed out.

Moved to Resolve forum.

Please consider reading the intro chapter in the user manual, it’s in the help menu.

A better option is to look on YouTube.

The Manual is enormous and not exactly easy to use. It is searchable but you have to know what you are looking for (in the terms BM uses) to find it. If you haven't been using Resolve for years you will have a hard time. It is not intuitive like FCPX.

To the OP Which Editor are you coming from or is Resolve your first one?

In the Media page do you see the storage locations of your media? If so can you drag clips from here into the Media Pool?
What version of Resolve are you using, Free or Studio, and what codec and resolution are your video clips?
This is what I typically see in the Media page on my Windows system before dragging any clips to the Media Pool.

As mentioned pick one of the many videos on YouTube showing you how to do it. (Generally I find I have to use YouTube to find out how to do things and then later, sometimes, use the manual. It is not the best manual by a long long way)

For example

In short Resolves links ot the media on your computer. it does not import by moving the files from a card to the project space. So you have to manually move files from the memory card to a project space on you computer. Then you import to resolve.

The bins mentioned are virtual bins in Resolve not actual folders on your computer. Though you can inport a folder as a bin.
