Bug (or missing feature?): Delivery > Filename is lost

PostThu Aug 26, 2021 4:59 pm

17.3

When the project is saved and closed, when reopened: the Delivery > File > Filename is lost.

"Unamed" comes back :-/

Is this forgotten?

It's not clear to me why, when I save a project, the illustrated data are lost.
Reopening it, I have to rewrite everything

The views thing is weird. It always happens on this forum - hundreds of views within seconds of you making the post. No idea what could cause it. Some bug perhaps, or maybe some internal BMD process where they have a bot that scans all the posts? Never seen anything like it on any other forum.

Regarding the info being lost - yeah, Resolve is crap at storing last-used preferences. There's a very old and long feature request thread about it: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=96350

You can save a Render Preset to store your preferred render settings, and it will preserve the Custom Name value, but you have to re-choose the preset to get it back.

Can you please answer with a real indication?
If I had time to go through 3650 pages of a manual, I wouldn't ask here.
Right? Am I right?
Or perhaps you think I have nothing to do during the day, and I can go through these pages trying to find what I need up there. Well everything is possible eh?!

What does it serve a Forum and a Community then? To show "how great we are to show certifications/titles/money-in-the-pocket"?

Come-on :D :D :D

I was really clear and specific on my question, since each time I save the project I lose these data.
Who really knows, please help me to find a solution (if there is, otherwise it's a missing feature).

Thanks in advance

Bart have another read through your previous thread on this topic.
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=147421&p=789617

Repost of the advice provided in that thread:

The "Untitled" designation is due to the "Filename uses" preference on the File tab which defaults to "Custom name" and an "Untitled" value.

Setting the "Filename uses" preference to "Timeline name" updates the filename field based on the currently selected Timeline.

Saving a User Preset with the "Filename uses" set to "Custom name" and entering a string in the Filename field will use this specific custom file naming convention when the preset is recalled.

Example: %Project Name
Uses the Project Name as the Filename.

Hi Reynaud

I think then I misunderstood the meaning of your suggestion. Because I went right up there to enter the data, and to save the project.
But then I lost it when I re-opened the project.
I mean I lost path and filename and I had to re-insert them manually.

It's not a big effort, but if the Project could save these data, it will be much easier.

I will re-read more accurately what you stated, trying to identify whee I misunderstood your hint, and I will be back for result.

Ok here I am again. I read your statements well and tried them all.

The name of the project is not the name of the file and it shouldn't be, having several time-lines into the project, each one with its own name

TO change it with the time-line name, is not what I need, since the time-line has a much shorter name than the one I use for the final video file (long name, with separation by understories, that's describing category, author, etc)

Now: on that tab "File" when I give the file name, then I save the project, and close it, when I recall the project, reopening it, it's back to "Untitled".

I don't think it's a feature. It looks more a bug. A missed bug

Indeed what I ask is the feature o r the correction of this but, to be able once forever, to save the project, i which each time-line into "delivery" can have its own filename AND path. Recalling it;, I must have them back.

Instead of, now, they are removed.
And I do'nt see any action from BMD to implement/correct this, so far.

Like I said a few posts ago and Reynaud also mentioned: you need to save a Render Preset. A Render Preset will preserve the File Name property.

However, every time you load Resolve you need to manually re-apply the Render Preset. This, in my view, is a bug or missing feature: it remembers most of the settings you last used, but it does not remember the filename. You always have to re-apply the preset to get that filename back.

Examples:

I set up Deliver like so:
Image

I click the three-dot menu and choose "Save As New Preset":
Image

I give it a name:
Image

Resolve is now using this preset:
Image

I do a render with these settings.

Then I save the project, then close and re-open Resolve. Resolve remembers most of the settings, but it does not remember the filename - it shows "Custom" preset, and "Untitled" again:

I need to manually re-apply the preset:

To get my filename back:

Complex custom file names may be defined by entering a leading percent (%) sign in the filename field and selecting from a slew of available tags to include in the file name. These custom file names may be saved with a Preset.

Note that Presets may be defined as Quick Export Presets by selecting a Preset from the Additional Options (3 dots) menu on the Deliver page and then selecting the Preset in the Quick Export window on the Edit or Fairlight Timeline - the Deliver page is not always required to output deliverables.

Hi @TheBloke and @Reynaud

I understand the preset stuff, but it's not what I need.
I can't imagine to have a preset for each project. i will have the database full of presets.
It doesn't make sense, for what I'm doing.

Presets are made to have video formats. Not to have filenames. As far as you don't use a preformed file name each time. Which is not my case. Indeed not always the ifile names have the same structure. They can't (in this moment in time my workflow doesn't forecast this and I can't).

So, I need a feature that: when I save the project, it save a automatically the filename(s) I do assign, without be necessary to have a preset. because I will never ever reuse that filename in another project

If I was doing differently and having always the same kind of work: ok the your suggestions were great: using presets it was the way with the wildcards, indeed.
