Version 17.4 Is very buggy

PostMon Oct 25, 2021 10:10 am

I own Davinci Studio since Version 16.1 and it's been working like a charm with minor little bugs.
However, since upgrading to version 17.4 (from 17.3), I experienced a whole lot of bugs. Has anyone else experienced the same thing?
It crashes and freezes regularly, it becomes unresponsive for about 1 minute or indefinitely, the wacom pen sometimes does not work with it, it's now impossible to enter values by double clicking with the pen. i have to use a regular mouse. (I checked the pen and it works fine with other applications...).
Fusion has become awfully slow same as Davinci in general. I have an 5K IMAC 2017 with 32Gb RAM, RADEON 580, 8G Ram, 2TB Fusion disk but using a 2TB sandisk SSD for all my video work. I have configured all the parameters an optimal way for smooth playback (Optimized Media and Render Cache in settings).
I even did a complete check of my computer with Apple as well as a cleaning via Onyx and reinitialising of the PRAM, SMC, etc... But despite all these tweaks, Davinci remains sluggish?
Any other users experiencing the same issues?

You are not the only one having this issue so many are.

The one thing that can be a bad taste for customers is a company releasing an uncomplete version of a product/service.

have been using DR since 13. 13 - 15 was the best any thing after that has just been bugs upon bugs and this recent DR17.4 takes the cake.

Resolve wount even load up at. BRAW player no even playing RAW files at all just blank screen. please stop releasing more feature and fix existing on don't become Adobe. there editing software stack is a mess. outdate code, not future proof that just keep building on old stack of code.

Resolve is mean tot be different, can we get a hotfix for 17.4 ASAP 17.4.1 is needed.

on all my machine i can't even load Resolve. if just disappears rather than showing the database list.
this is one of the most common issue so far everyone is having.

It feels like your focusing on making things work more for mac less focus on windows and i can't speak for Linux has I have no experience or any user feedback on that side.

Most of us are working on Desktop machine the M1 Max doesn't come close to my system spec and not for many.

Same issue with wacom, on a mac. In the fusion tab, I can no longer zoom and move around when I have it set as middle click. Which it did before... Need a new bug fix on this one ASAP!

I don't really have any of these bugs on the 17.4. I also produced a video with a lot of inserts etc, without getting in these issues. But I will keep your post in mind, in case it occurs

Read my .sig :-)

I've stuck with 15.3 and enjoy countless hours of crash/bug-free use of Resolve. I don't *need* the extra features offered by later versions but I do need reliability and dependability, hence my decision to stay with what was perhaps the most reliable version of the software ever released.

Everyone should remember that "upgrading" to the latest version is not mandatory and sometimes if "it just works" then there is no need to change anything in your system.

I can confirm, Resolve was very stable on 17.3 but with 17.4 it crashes or locks a lot.

Ah, 13, the only version that didn't have a single bug (because it never existed). :)

This isn't directed at a particular person but I think we need to be patient. v17.4 is only a few days old and there are a lot of new stuff in it. The updates since v17.2 would have been a new major version in any other NLE. To make things worse, both Apple and Microsoft are releasing new operating systems at the same time.

In the meantime, you always have the option of reverting to v17.3.

I upgraded to 17.4 and the weirdest thing happened... I couldn't hide the program! It wouldn't hide whatsoever. I had to quit out of it just to get to anything else on my workstation. I reloaded 17.3.2 and everything went back to normal operation. I guess I'll just wait for 17.4.1 or whatever version fixes this mess.

I read many about these issues but I still working without problems. I worked out the whole day without issues.

The only one way it crashed, it was when I backed up everything and then I deleted all files. Erroneously I reopened the project where all fines were missing, and just up there it crashed.

But till now, I edited a TV ADS, a couple of trailers and a tutorial, without having these heavy issues.

Did you install it as recommended? I mean uninstalling the old version and installing the new one?
If you are based on PostgreSQL (as I do) you don't need even to save the database. You get all templates and projects back as soon as the new one is installed.

3D KEYER different behavior on EDIT and Color

PostMon Oct 25, 2021 10:29 pm

The 3D keyer has been updated and UI is way better but on the edit tab, the OFX version onf 3D key has a lot of problem making the matte, it takes out green range of color but also others colors... (see images)
on the color tab it seems to be a correct behavior

see how the same first stroke line for 3d keyer cause different results on same video

Please guys, saying its buggy but not providing ways to repo and logs with system info is unlikely to help us fix your issue.. If we can see or repo them they are pretty hard to fix.

We assume the people who did the internal testing did not see any problems either, yet here we are, with what looks to be the buggiest release in a long time, but if everyone used the exact same system as you, same software and peripherals installed used only the media you used with same editing that you've done in Resolve 17.4 we could expect them to have no problems either. But it's not as as simple as that with PC's

Yes it's a strange one Bob.
I upgraded to 17.4 last week, and have been watching for bugs/errors etc. I am producing 2 documentaries, a feature trailer, and several TV commercials atm... a cavalier decision I know!
Ready to hurriedly revert to 17.3.1, I haven't yet had anything that would cause me to do so... well not that I have noticed anyway - and the breadth of what we ask of the software is fairly wide, using every page (except CUT)

I have been watching the forum, and duplicating some of the steps that others are having problems with, but I don't have any issue with the new version... so yes it is strange... and that's PCs for you, so many different configurations and peripherals.

Our main workstation runs pretty lean.. only Resolve, Photoshop and a couple of other essentials. Not even an Antivirus program, as it is not connected to the internet. Any files transferred to the PC are scanned in advance.

I can only thank BM for the upgrade and empathise with users who ARE having problems, and will certainly report any issues that I encounter down the track.

Sadly for now i cannot replicate any of the freezing issues that i have with 17.4

But i have noticed one thing (this was an issue before this update as well) If i use Izotope RX 8 Elements or Ozone 8 Elements on audio clips in the timeline (Denoiser or other effects), that particular timeline will take a lot to load while switching between different timelines in the project, sometimes making it impossible to even playback the video real time.

If i put the same effects but in the audio track in Fairlight instead, everything works just fine. And the more more individual clips that use one of these plugins the longer it takes to load that particular timeline or even project if that timeline is the only thing opened.

As for the crashes and instability itself i'm trying to determine if it's not related to older projects that have issues with the new update.

For certain there are some issues with some. Exported a project for a backup at some point (in 17.3) and when i imported that project in 17.4 at some point it stopped saving any changes and when i tried to close Davinci Resolve it asked me if i wanted to save / cancel / don't save the project and the window would simply not go away no matter what i pressed.

But this one was fixed by making a new project and copying the elements from the old project.

There is also this issue with text :)

Well, as you can read I'm not the only one not having vene declared issues while many other ones they have. But as it was clearly stated by BMD: if not one is posting Logs and do not put them in the condition to replicate the bug (descaling hardware used etc), it will be hard to tackle it.

Probably some conflict with a specific driver (like it was form me till the penultimate version), or architectural or who knows what :-/

Hi Adrian

Thanks for the report. Can we bother you for a link to a simple resolve archive (a sample clip and two edits to show the difference in behavior)?

Thanks

Like Bart and Steven, I don't have these problems either. The only bug I've seen is the Trim error on audio fades.
Reading through the forum there seem to be a lot more Mac users with problems, and also those with Win 11.

Hi Peter, if it helps I'm on:
Imac pro 3,2 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon W
64 GB 2666 MHz DDR4
Radeon Pro Vega 56 8 GB
Mac OS Big sur 11.6.1
Wacom intous pro M PTK-640

Resolve studio 17.4
Fusion studio 17.4

Since 17.4 I am not able to use middle click as a function on my Wacom tablet in fusion, neither in Resolve fusion or Fusion studio standalone. It's just zooming in, in steps, nothing more. I can zoom and pan around on a mouse

I went back to 17.3.2 and opened the same projects. No problem with moving around and zooming in and out.

I'm grateful to find that I'm not the only one with issues. I use a WACOM Intous Pro and my main concern is that in the FUSION tab, I'm unable to click once to change values. What happens is the value becomes highlighted in RED (around the box of the value) and then updates when my pen is moved. The only way I can change the value is to right click, select all, and then I can type. Once I hit enter/return, the next value becomes highlighted in RED but the original value stays highlighted in RED as well.

Even happens in the frame count value box.

I'm on an
