Windows 11 Support?

PostMon Nov 29, 2021 11:13 pm

I am guessing there are plans to support Windows 11 at some point, I am just wondering when that might be and if there is a rough estimate of when a release might support that?

For anyone wondering, and just as a data point, I went ahead and tried to install Resolve on 2021 modern hardware with windows 11 and it wouldn't install(somewhat expectedly).

My rule of thumb is not to use a new version of windows until SP1 (and wait a month after SP1 just in case.)

As new PC's are going to come with Win11 I assume (dangerous, I know) that BMD are going to have to support Win11 fairly quickly. The problem is it will still be a moving target for a while.

I haven't exactly been trying to qualify the platform, but I haven't had anything not work just playing with it.

We have it running for quite some time in QA.
If you find issues, please let us know.

I'm also running Windows 11 without issues but on hardware that's 4-5 years old.

Did the install fail or did it simply not install the icons? Did you run the installer as a user with administrator privileges?

It failed to install. Looked at the logs and did the best I could to track down what I thought were the relevant error messages and troubleshoot them, but after a couple hours couldn't figure it out.

Unfortunately DaVinci Resolve logs still say Windows 10 if you're running Windows 11 so it's hard to know from someone else's logs what's actually running on a given date unless you're familiar with Windows build numbers.

Correction(I think). I think I can say that the install succeeds, but that it fails to actually launch. When launched it lands on the splash screen and then quickly hangs. I've been turning on/off firewalls, trying different gpu drivers, restarting services, disabling services. Not really sure what's going on. Any help would be great

Ah, surprised that Microsoft did that thing again, where the major version in the build number doesn't correspond to the version number in the name of the OS. I thought they were done with that once they fixed it with 10.
