Working Between Resolve 16 and 17?

PostThu Dec 02, 2021 7:04 pm

I've been using Studio 17.4.2 on my main MacMini M1 but this week I'm on a trip with my old 2013 MacBookAir 1.3GHz i5 running Resolve (free).

While the main machine is the MacMini, I'd like to start assembling some of the files during my trip. What kind of issues might I face by assembling in 16 and finishing later in 17?

I am hesitant to download 17 Free for the MacBookAir because of its age. Any thoughts?

A problem you might run into is the incompatibility of the databases between 16 and 17, though a .drp file from 16 should open in 17.
Resolve Studio 17.4.3 Build 10
Dell XPS 8700 i7-4790 4 core, 24GB RAM, 2 x internal Samsung Evo SSDs, GTX1060/6GB (472.47 Studio), Win10 Home 19043, Speed Editor, PreSonus Faderport 1, Eizo ColorEdge CS230 + BenQ GW2270 (both calibrated)

Download the R17 version and create a NEW database so you can test the performance.
If all is good you can then upgrade the V16 database.
If not you can re-install V16.
For basic ingest and shot selection, there should be no issues taking a DRP from V16 to V17.
If any issues arise, you can also export an exported XML or EDL into V17.
Resolve 17.4.3
Mac OSX 10.14.6, Hackintosh i7 8700 32GB RAM, Radeon RX 580 8GB
Decklink Studio 2, FSI LM1770 Monitor
