I'm on my last edit for this project. I've been playing with the Edit Page's Inspector Zoom. I imported a graphic still image of 1920 x 1080 into the Media bin. I then drag that media on to Video Track 2. I scrub the MP4 video clip before it and through the graphic and I've attached what I see in DR. It doesn't fill the screen. I then tried to Zoom it but then the graphic looks like a carnival mirror where the image looks too fat. I'm not sure how to best correct this? I had to copy the image from the person's Facebook page and clean it up so all you can see is the bucket and then export it as a .png

Thank you for your kind help and insights.

You've got the x & y parameters unlinked. As it is a totally different aspect ratio that picture will never show in it's entirety when zoomed in to fill the screen.

With a bit of jiggery-pokery by me, this is what it will probably look like. :)

Hi Charles, Thank you but when I Chain the Zoom X and Y so the chain is highlighted and type in 3.160 for the X then the Y changes to that also so you miss most of the bucket. If I unchain (unlink) the X and Y and leave the X as 3.160 in the X an changed the Y to 1.00 it looks like a carnival mirror again.

Would you pls. share each step?
Step 1 - Make sure X and Y are chained in the Zoom
Step 2 - type in 3.160 in the X box for Zoom
Step 3 - un-chain X and Y and in the Y types in ????

Thank you!

If the image you want to resize is a different aspect ratio than your timeline, taller than it is wide in your example vs wider than it is tall for a 1920x1080 timeline, you will either have to only see a portion of your original image and reframe to view the portion you most want to keep it undistorted or it will have to be distorted if you want it all to fit. If you try and make it all fit, you have to "squish" the image down which will distort it, this will happen with any image.

To achieve what Charles did in his post, keep the x and y chained and zoom to 3.16, then adjust the y position until the bucket is in the center.

Charles and Eric,

Thank you both.

The focus should be on the "table" (wooden part which holds the metal bucket.

I was thinking I could take the screen capture of the Beer Ice Bucket (table) with the metal bucket on it and use that all. It seems I must choose one over the other.

In the future, is there a way to ensure that photos you use will fill the whole screen in DR without having to make these sacrifices in Zoom?

I ask because there are other photos I screen captured off their Facebook page and imported them into the DR Media bin and the dragged them on to Video Track 2 and they looked fine and filled the whole screen.

I'm just trying my best to approach still graphics for DR?

Thank you both so very much again for all your help.

If an image fills your screen correctly, it will be the correct aspect ratio of 16x9 when you take a screen grab. If it is smaller than your screen but is in a similar or close aspect ratio, it will fit the timeline when zoomed in.
If you have no option but to use a vertical image, you can always give it colored borders.

It would be relatively straight forward if you simply edit this still image grab before bringing it into Davinci.

Assuming the "photo" is 1080px high and is the common 3:2 aspect ratio, the width is 720px. You create a 1920x1080 background then layer the photo on top of the background (or do a similar thing e.g. increase the canvas size of the photo to 1920x1080). Then clone parts of the photo's surroundings into the new blank areas. Then flatten any layers and save as a file type that Davinci accepts such as JPEG or PNG and probably as an sRGB profile for good measure. You would use a photo editing software such as the cheap and brilliant Affinity Photo.

In practice it can be much more fiddly if the original photo has busy surroundings. You can get an online photography editor to do it for you for just a few $ though.

Why not just make a virtue of the original though e.g. by offsetting it towards one side and playing with Dynamic Zoom over several seconds to zoom into or out of the primary area of interest or to start at the top of the photo and go downwards.

Hi Ashton, Sorry for my late reply. Microsoft had a hiccup preventing W10 from loading boot so I lost access to the one PC which has a separate graphics card with DR loaded. Thank you for your valued insights. We just got a license (on sale) for Affinity Publisher and Photo and will load that on to the DR PC. I haven't played around a lot with Affinity so I'm sure it has it's own learning curve which can be steeper for those of us who haven't used a good graphics or photo editor. I've seen that Affinity had video tutorials but I just haven't had any time to watch them. It looks like a valuable application. Thanks again.
