Data level Video or Film dnxhr444

PostSun Jan 02, 2022 9:33 am

Hello, Please tell me
I render in the dnxhr 444 codec, what should I choose in data levels: video or film?
what are their differences?
as I understand it, the data level video is intended for publication on the Internet, but I still do not fully understand what the data level film is for, despite the fact that it is not displayed correctly when I upload it to the google cloud, it looks fine through the mpv player, just like and in davinchi
Thank you

Traditionally all "YUV" (Y-Cb/Cr) media was expected to be encoded in "legal" 16-235, and all RGB media, mostly 12bit, was expected to be encoded "full" 0-255.

In Avid though, DNx 4444 can be RGB-12 bit and either full or legal.

Any properly set monitor should handle both correctly, displaying both as 0-255. One should have their monitors set for auto as far as full/legal are concerned. That way, it all works.

So ... good question, but with that format and codec, it might depend ... on other things. It will be interesting to see other replies.

If they are flagged correctly, it shouldn't matter. But it's better to ask your client. If he/she doesn't know, use YUV and video range. BTW, videos on the internet are regularly video level too.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Not at all. The most common online codec H.264 uses legal video levels.
