Can't generate optimized media. Please Help.

Hi There,

I'm using a PC and Resolve 14 and I'm new to editing.

I'm trying to generate optimized media (drone footage h.264) for smoother playback. However, I keep getting an error message when I try to do this that says "Error encountered during optimized media generation. Cancelling..."

My optimized media settings: Res. Half and Format DNxHR SQ (as per the Casey Faris video).

Can some one please help me out with this??

I also got the message ""Error encountered during optimized media generation" with 12.5 Studio using RAW footage. I solved it by re-mounting the SSD I was using as a cache, and making sure the path to the media storage location was set correctly under Preferences | Media Storage (I had changed the volume--cache is best left permanently attached). I believe there is another thread that addresses issues with h.264 specifically,but you might check to see if your problem is specific to h.264 by trying another format to see if it reproduces there as well. If so it could be the cache volume or path issue (could also be cache volume full or corrupted).

Had this same problem today, I had initially set the optimized media resolution to one-sixteenth, change it to something like one-eigth or one-quarter. Worked like a charm for me.

Check the hard drive that hosts the cache to see if it's full. If so, you may need to delete the cached files from old projects.

Just ran into this issue. It wasn't affecting all clips, strangely, but for the affected clips changing from quarter to half resolution worked for me. I tried restarting Resolve and my computer, but unfortunately that didn't work and some clips still don't work at quarter resolution. Anyone have a solution for that? This is a very old topic, and I'm running Resolve 15 so once I update to the latest version it may be fixed, but I'm just hoping this project can use 1/4 resolution clips

I think I've found the cause of this, so I hope the moderators approve this. It's only affecting clips that are already low resolution. 1280x720 clips are okay generating quarter resolution optimized media, but a clip and 568x320 won't work.
