Media management move removed 16.2.3

PostThu Jan 20, 2022 11:13 pm

I am aware that Davinci removed the "MOVE" operation as one of the Media Management functions.

I would really like to see this find it's way BACK, we actually installed the 16.2.2 on many of our stations just be able to leverage powerful tool again.
1) We use this to REMOVE old outdated VFX Shots so they CANNOT contaminate a FINAL piece.
2) Confrom and only send / share between other Facilities specific Media. (Graded, Ungraded, TEMP VFX, ETC ETC.)

Please Resolve bring this BACK!

Please refrain from shouting.. all caps.

We have not plans to return the old move function as it created a number of workflow problems.
Please use copy and reconform.

I am not sure why I got the CAPS flag, but I will use them less.
Unfortunate the copy and relink does not help or work the same at all.

Copy with Trim and relink works fine here, just used it yesterday on a large project. Can you describe what happens when you try?
And then, I suppose BM removed the Move function since it might delete files even if it doesn't get through (and there are not checksums like in Clone). So, deleting the sources is your responsibility.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Hey Uli,
Yes no argument about the COPY option not working, that option works great.

My scenario - we process VFX for Features and Trailers, often times the FINAL is never really FINAL until the movie/trailer are on the Big screen.
So we use the "MOVE" in media management to get those files away from our FLAME FINISHER's.
With the COPY function we then have to go using COMMAND line or manually pluck those files away ourselves. Which leaves room for human error and takes more time.

My current work around is:
Loaded version 16.2.2 on a MAC and I only use it to "MOVE" media.
It sounds like very few people use this the way we do, but I can begin describe how VALUABLE it is to us.
Make an AAF from Avid or Premiere link those shots to the FINALS and then remove them to HOLD or OLD VERSION directory.

After making a trimmed cop with "relink to new files" you should be able to export an AAF from that new version.

Thanks for the RESPONSES, but please read what I am trying to do. I know how to use COPY function.
I want the Media Manage MOVE returned to RESOLVE.

They made it clear that it’ll not come back.
So, use the workaround or do some scripting.
